In the continuing story about our County’s opiate addiction and overdose epidemic, Darcy Spencer interviews Mike Durso, Montgomery County Board of Education member and Craig Rice, Montgomery County Council member.  According to Durso, “These are some serious issues…I don’t think there’s been a lot of honesty in dealing with it.”

Both Durso and Rice agree that they would support a legislative initiative to train school nurses in Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) for kids who present symptoms of substance use disorder and/or addiction.  So, can we assume that these individuals are currently working on a legislative initiative or that funding will be allocated in order to implement this proposal for the 2014 – 2015 school year?
